Job Description\nAccountant I or II\nThe University of Mary is seeking an Accountant I or II, depending on experience. This position exists to support daily operations of the Business Office.\nCandidates will be invited to demonstrate a willingness to support the Accounting Department.\n\nBenefits Include:\nTuition benefits\nRetirement benefits with an 8% match\nMedical, Dental and Vision insurance\nDiscounted Meal Plan\nDiscounted membership at the campus Wellness Center\nEssential Roles and Responsibilities Include:\nGeneral Ledger Journal Entries\nMaintains the fixed assets database\nResponsible for vendor management\nPrepares monthly bank reconciliations\nOversees insurance and risk management functions\nAssists with preparation of the annual audit and 990 tax return\nCoordinates 1099 process\nCoordinates Unclaimed Property Filings\nBackup to Accounting Manager\nPerforms other related duties as requested and assigned\nDesired Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Experience include:\nRequired: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related business field with relevant accounting experience\nRequired: A minimum of two years of previous accounting or finance experience\n\nBuilds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality in the Office of Financial Affairs and throughout the company.\nKnowledge and Skills Required:\nKnowledge of generally accepted accounting principles\nProficiency with Microsoft Office software applications, especially Word and Excel\nAbility to learn and be proficient with in-house software applications, such as Jenzabar and CBORD\nAttentiveness to detail and an ability to enter data accurately and in a timely manner\nAbility to work within a timeframe and meet deadlines\nAbility to work well in a team environment\nAbility to maintain absolute confidentiality and discretion in all matters related to the Office of Financial Affairs and associated areas of responsibility\nAbility to represent the Office of Financial Affairs with integrity and a high level of professionalism\nAbility to use a high degree of tact, discretion, and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive situations and individuals\nStrong organizational skills and an ability to set priorities and exercise sound independent judgment within areas of responsibility\nAbility to understand, interpret, explain, and apply rules and policies applicable to areas of responsibility\nAbility to organize and maintain a filing system and document management databases\nExceptional verbal and written communication skills\nAbility to prepare clear, accurate, and concise correspondence, records, reports, and other documents
