Associates degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field. Current and progressive work experience monitoring multiple computing platforms including mid-range, mainframe, and/or servers and duties similar in nature and complexity to those listed in the summary of work may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following areas:
• Experience monitoring Mid-range, Mainframe, desktop PC’s and servers
• Job Scheduler experience
• Telephone customer service experience
Summary of Work:
Individual will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the state data centers and performance monitoring of multiple computer platforms and related peripheral equipment. Individual will operate tape drive equipment and monitor computer systems to prevent, detect, and troubleshoot malfunctions. Individual will be required to perform minor maintenance of equipment and identify problems with computer hardware and software. Monitoring application batch processing and perform various related duties common to the production systems. Individuals may be required to perform duties such as training/mentoring of others, aiding in the resolution of problems, performing more complex maintenance and be part of an on-call rotation.
ITD’s application, computer systems and network infrastructure consist of a variety of software applications, computing platforms, local and wide area networking equipment. Computing platforms to be supported include but are not limited to Mid-range, Mainframe, desktop PC’s and servers. Computer operating systems to include but not limited to Windows, Linux, Unix, OS/400, and ZOS systems.
Individual will assist ITD’s customer service call center by taking support calls during the individual’s work shift. Individual must have strong telephone customer service skills and strong verbal and written communication skills as needed to translate, document and communicate highly technical information to non-technical and technical customers. Individual will be responsible for logging, analyzing, troubleshooting and/or escalating customer’s technology issues. Individual must be able to work in a team environment. IT Technical Support Center work experience and the related customer service training is a plus.
This individual will occasionally operate a motor vehicle to deliver computers, equipment, tapes and other information to ITD worksites located within the Bismarck/Mandan area, thus, the applicant must have a valid ND Driver’s License.
Individual must be able to perform effectively under pressure, have good problem-solving skills, exhibit a positive enthusiasm toward work, co-workers and customers. Individual must also be self-motivated, accurate, reliable and consistent and must be willing to work a rotating shift and be on-call periodically.
